Dabbing has moved into a deeply meta-cognitive phase.
Dabbing was never about the execution of a gesture, which is simple to perform and requires no skill, technique, or practice.
What started as an absurdist dance move quickly became a gesture of triumph or the expression of elation. In this secondary phase of the history of the dab, the dab's execution was secondary to the event or moment that it celebrated.
Now, we are moving into the dab's most interesting, and probably final phase, in which the spirit of the dab is neither it's execution, nor its attachment to moments of triumph.
The current, deep essence of the dab is the process by which the practitioner redefines the moment in which dabbing is an appropriate gesture.
In other words, dabbing is no longer the physical act of dabbing itself, but rather using the physical gesture to mark the idea that the appropriate moment for dabbing has changed.
Therefore, dabbing, in the fullest sense, is only possible if the practitioner is using the dab to reinvent the purpose of the dab. This means that the dab always has a two functions. Dabbing has the legacy function of marking the prowess or triumph of the practitioner, but it also has the more important function of reinventing itself, and the moment of its execution.
Finally, these two functions can not be dissected from one another, because the prowess of the practitioner is actually demonstrated by his or her powers of creativity. The reinvention of the dab is a cause for its own celebration, which amplifies the triumph of whatever event the dab comes to commemorate in the moment of its reinvention.
